Research Every scientist or naturalist who has visited Gorongosa National Park agrees that the Park’s incredible diversity of animals and plants is second to none. Famous scientist E.O. Wilson said;

“Gorongosa, I will say it now, is ecologically the most diverse park in the world." E.O. Wilson

Exactly what species of animals and plants exist in Gorongosa has never been studied in a comprehensive way. Knowing what species exist in the Park is an important first step to understanding how all of the intricate pieces of Gorongosa’s ecology fit together and will help us decide how to best protect the ecosystem.

What to pack

You will have a weight limit of 15kg in a soft bag for the light aircraft transfers into most camps so you will have to pack lightly. Dinners are casual and most of the camps you will be visiting will have a laundry service.

We recommend a few items that you should bring along:
  • Layers, a mixture of long and short sleeves, are best for the fluctuating temperatures. Stick to neutral colours
  • A thick fleece/jumper - it is cold on the early morning game drives, even in the summer
  • A windcheater/light waterproof jacket
  • Comfortable but sturdy shoes for game walks
  • Flipflops for round the swimming pool or in the outdoor shower
  • Swim suit – even if you aren’t going to the beach many of the camps you will visit will have swimming pools
  • A wide brimmed hat to protect you from the sun
  • Good sunglasses – the African sun is bright!
  • A kikoy or kanga – can be used as a scarf, a shawl, a towel. The list is endless!
  • A small torch – head torches are particularly practical
  • Spare batteries, plug adaptors and charging equipment
  • A good pair of binoculars
  • A notebook and pencil for recording interesting sightings
  • A good book or fully loaded Kindle/iPad for siesta time
If you have any space left in your luggage please consider supporting the local community and bringing supplies with Pack For a Purpose. Visit the website: www.packforapurpose.org

Getting There

East Africa is easily accessible via the international hub airports of Nairobi, Kenya and Da es Salaam and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

Zanzibar is also an international airport and is easily accessible from the national parks of both Kenya and Tanzania.

We strongly suggest that you work with a specialist safari tour operator to ensure that you get the most out of your African safari. If you do not know who to contact please speak to us and we can recommend one of our preferred partners.

Carol (US)

September 2012

"I recently took my 94 year old mother on a safari, (her idea), and had been thrilled with the camps we visited in Tanzania, didn't think they could be topped. But Naboisho Camp proved me wrong. The education about the conservancy was so interesting. The animals were visible (and audible) from our tent. And then there were Daniel and Radika, our guides, who were so helpful and fun. Just can't say enough about what a wonderful place this was!"
"All in all I have to say that all of the 5 star reviews are there for a reason"
